Can someone please decode my numbers

Post by Oyamum »

Hi guys I'm wondering if anyone is able to give me any history on my s1?
I'm new to the world of series rovers only owning discos before. I'd love to know where it was sold originally and if the engine is still original also curious of the factory colour as there is a lot of white showing through the mustard....
Chassis # 510248

Thanks in advance

Not quite sure that I understand your question.

As per your Compliance Plate you have an Australian delivered Land-Rover 3.5 Hardtop. By the pre-VIN (no manufacturer's code) sequence, a slightly early car.

Hmm, seems to comply with some standards, unlike most BL vehicles made at the same time.

Cheers guys. Is there anyway to tell the factory colour from that build plate?

From that plate? I doubt it.

There is a relatively short list of colours for these. If yours is repainted, then you'll probably find the colour on some hidden panel somewhere. Let us see it and it can probably be matched up with a name.

No, the compliance only reflects ADR.
The foil colour decals will be on the top of the radiator. The roof will be Arctic White and if original, the body is Bahama Gold.

So that's my beast... Engine bay and interior is all the same colour so the gold looks factory. However I can see lots of panels with white underneath, if it was just hang ons I'd assume someone's changed a door or something but on the bottom of the bulkhead where paints chipped off its white underneath. Maybe was gold then repainted white then gold again who knows

Because the only colours they came in at that time, in that shade... How about you look in the two tool bins or battery box.

Cheers mate. You know your stuff I had a look in the boxes and what not and Yep it's all gold.

So now my next dilemma...... Are these valuable enough to warrant keeping them original????? I'd like a change of colour but I don't wanna destroy its value....

As with owner induced colour changes on any vehicle, 99% of them are rubbish. Because it's all too easy to spot that the colour's been changed. The only vehicles to command top dollar are those in original condition.
