Fairey OD linkages

Post by minivin »

Morning All,

I note Bumpkin used to make the linkage rod and block for the Fairey Overdrive, but I am not aware whether he still has any (Hopefully Bumpkin will see this message :-) ).

If none are available, would anyone have a block and linkage drawing, or both of these items on a shelf, so that I may produce some CAD drawings from them and see if I can get a few made?

Is there any reason one cannot be fabbed or does it need pattern parts?

I'll keep it in mind Harry!

Unfortunately disco2hse, I don't have an overdrive or any of the controls to be able to use as a basis for coming up with what shape the linkage rod needs to be. However, saying that I may come into possession in the near future of an overdrive case, but nothing is guaranteed :-)

OK. I don't have an overdrive but I do have a PTO that came with no linkages. Making the parts required some thought, a length of stiff fencing wire, drills, files, ... . What resulted was a complex curve on a rod. The rod comes out through the front of the seat box. I used a black Santana 4WD knob (as opposed to the LR yellow one). Works a treat but probably bears no resemblance to the original.

If a cable is required, then the job is possibly easier. You will need to make mounting points for each end and one of those that provides for an adjuster.

I hadn't realised Bumpkin used to make these parts. He did provide the photos at http://www.stage1v8.org.uk/overdrive/index.html

I'm still in need of a linkage myself (having the RR bits, like Harry Potter) so if you do manage to get some made then I would be interested.

This might be a better view (if the photo loads properly).
