DISTRIBUTOR ALIGNMENT

Post by landykeith »

I have recently rebuilt the engine and upon replacing the distributor the angle of the rotor arms is out by 90 degrees from where it should be at TDC.

The engine will only run (very roughly) when the distributor leads are moved by 2 places in the cap to align with the position of the rotor arm at TDC?

during the rebuild, I haven't moved the timing chain and the oil pump is also ok. Can anyone provide any ideas???

If the timing chain was not removed, then you should verify you really aligned the distributor rotor with the N°1 piston contact on the distributor cap at TDC. Keep in mind that the crankshaft makes two turns from one TDC to the next TDC so you have to check the valve rockers positions to know if you are at the firing instant (both valves closed).
