Clutch noise

Post by Andywmb »

Hello everyone. Looking for a bit of advice. My 83 stage 1 is making a horrible squeeling noise when I depress the clutch or when slipping the clutch (when Manovering). The obvious thing I thought of was the clutch release bearing, so I changed that last weekend (outside in the wind and rain). But the noise is still there much to my annoyance. It drives absolutely fine with no juddering, and the clutch assembly is all in good condition ( not worn out).

Has anyone else experienced this or any ideas?

Many thanks in advance (from a snowy Scotland)

Did you check the spigot bush in the end of the crankshaft!
If this is worn or dry it can cause a 'squeal'

That's what it was. I did some more research into it and found that the v8 in my stage 1 was originally from a car with an auto gearbox and these came with a steel spigot bush as there was no rotation between it and the torque converter. That's the 5th time the engine has been out of it this year. Hopefully that's it sorted for now and I can finally enjoy driving it.
