Engine Oil Cooler

Post by gingerwinky »

Hello all from New Zealand,

I have just located the oil leak on my ex-nzdf 109, the gasket (5330-99-796-6077) which is fitted between the engine oil filter housing and military oil filter/oil cooler assy base plate (2990-99-796-6078) has given up the ghost after 30 years.

My question is this, do I need the oil cooler. I have removed all of the battery split charge system, the military alternator has been replaced and I certainly won't be fitting the military roof rack or towing heavy trailers.

Any thoughts will be most appreciated.

Yes, you most definitely do need the oil cooler. In fact quite a few of our Australian cousins also fit oil coolers to their LT95's.

Hi Alan,
just thought I would ask as to replace the gasket I have to strip out most of the oil cooler assembly and if the vehicle didn't need it then I would remove the rest of it at the same time.

Thanks for the reply
