Post by sebking »

My header tank is leaking where the the pipe from the rad meets, it's off to be soldered up but as is NLA and just in case any one got an idea of a replacement alternative?

I have a friend who is a fabricator and is pretty handy at welding ally. He makes all sorts of tanks.
Here are some pics of some of his work

He may be able to copy the original tank. I can ask the question if you would like.

What about using the Defender tank? I know it is different, but is it worth making changes to make it fit?

Why not just take yours to the local radiator shop and have it fixed?

uhh,

I think I misunderstood the OP post. By "header tank" do you mean the expansion tank or top tank on the radiator?

Header/Expansion Tank

Post by sebking »

disco2hse - yep the header/expansion tank for the radiator

map1275 - the OP said it was going off to be fixed but was looking for an alternative just in case...

alicerover - nice but looks heavy on the pocket!

I’m working from memory here so don’t shoot me, but I think the expansion bottle is the same as what was fitted to MGB’s and/or Midgets. As for an upgrade I remember seeing something almost identical on a modern MG RV8 but in plastic

As for a repair; it should be easily soldered as the pipe isn’t flanged – it goes though the side of the bottle to almost the bottom so that the siphoning effect can return the water to the rad when cooling.

Good luck…

No it's not.
The Land-Rover item appears to be unique. Countless BL products from the 1960s on use similar but not interchangeable expansion tanks.
