oil priming

Was a bit concerned about priming the new engine as it'd been sitting for so long and turning it probably moved the original grease packing in the oil pump.

Purchased a tool that attaches to a cordless drill and the top of the pump which seems to have done the trick nicely - 30 secs of spinning and then could feel the drill slow down as it tried to pull cold 20/50.

Interesting - any link to what you bought - might be useful as its 3 years since I built my engine - well will be by the time it runs later this year

A cheap and easy way is to make your own, take an old distributor, strip it down so you just have the shaft and use that to drive the oil pump :D

I made my own. I took the largest metal rod that would fit in my drill (7/16" I think). I took a grinding wheel and cut a notch in the end of the rod that sort of looks like the end of the distributer.

It worked no problem.
