Head Gasket - Composite or Tin

Post by Matt Braddish »

Having got the top end apart to change the camshaft, I have decided to whip off the heads and re-seat the valves.

Which gasket is the preferred choice. It seems that the composite is a better long term item, however it lowers the compression ratio on an engine with an already low ratio. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Would a lower compression ratio increase your fuel consumption? ;)

Personally I have always gone with the composite products, but that's just because they were available and others had to be bought through specialist suppliers. The interwebs make some things too hard.

I would not think that the variance would make that much difference unless it has just had new rings, bearings and valves too.

I really wanted to put tin ones in mine, but when I rebuilt my engine I fitted 10.5:1 pistons anyway, and my mate the mechanic reckoned use the composite ones, so yeah, got a felpro set from summit racing in usa.
