Production #'s and VIN questions?

Post by KR »

Anybody know the total number of Stage 1's that were produced? Throughout the different years? Eg. 1984?

I have read that there were 29 88" V8's built. How about 109's?

Are County Stage 1's rare?

My serial # is 177708. Anybody have a later one?

I don't have production numbers though - think I will find out from Gaydon.

County is nice the spec is better

but also you can see more from the spares lists

What's more desirable in terms of options - that's personal choice but Overdrive his high on my list!

Hi
As far i i could find out when i owned a Stage 1 is
29 88" Stage 1s were produced with 27 going to the Trinidad & Tobago Police force. 2 that i know of are still on the island, one i tracked down in South America and 1 in Germany. The german one is on utbube video. The other 2 were factory registered. Dont know anything about them. Long gone i expect.
27 Stage 1 Hi Caps. One i have just sold to an enthusiast in Holland. There is another here in Cornwall somewhere and a couple scattered in this country.
The Stations were relatively common in Stage 1 terms, although still rare.
Quite a few pick ups and hard tops made.
Dont know about total mumbers. I have seen a 1976 prototype Stage 1 at Gadon heritage center.

As far as the total Stage 1 production, are there any educated guesses out there? 2-3000?

Parts catalogue quotes a modification to the 1/2 gearbox selector fork at gearbox number 88108316.

Assuming 5% of gearboxes were supplied as spares in CKD kits or were warranty units in the first years of production, that would indicate a field population of about 7900 vehicles.

Could be completely wrong of course....

No County's sold in Australia.

Virtually all the original accessories are considered rare or desirable as very few were fitted to the vehicles when new, primarily due to cost. This does vary slightly depending on precisely what model you have.

bonnet lock
hazard light kit
fog light kit
overdrive
tow bar
tinted glass
PTO
oil cooler
towing eyes
fuel cap lock
extra fuel tank

Normally standard but technically optional depending on market and model;
Heater
Reverse lights
Seat belts...

I have 532124.

But you had better make sure of how Rover was sequencing their numbers before you relate this to production quantities of any specific model.

don't think they used a unique serial no when the Vin system was introduced
so the serial no's will be counting including the 4 cyls'
- I think

mine is 117xxx (cant remember the last three)
so i dont think counting serial no's will help
