inlet restrictors

Post by Jules »

I've been told and have read that the stage 1 3.5l engine was de-tuned considerably because LR thought it was too powerful. There is a restrictor in the inlet manifold. Is this part number RTC 2320 please?
Also, does anyone know what other things were done to de-tune the engine?

Cheers,

Jules

There is restrictor in the manifold below each carburettor. Therefore two per vehicle.

Depending on precisely which model you have, the distributor advance maybe different. Needles are simply vehicle specific, as the Ser III weighs a lot more than a Range-rover etc. Otherwise that's all! However there was a concurrent range of engines in other vehicles with different outputs.

Engine is also of a lower compression ratio so it runs ok on crappy fuel - eg two star!

Same as 101, RR was higher.

RR was higher
not entirely true , most of the rr's made around the same time, and defiantly most from the 70's also ran 8.13:1 CR
my engine is from a 1979 RR and is 8.13:1 , as is by dads 75RR

as said the carbs are probably jetted differently, and distributor advance may be different , but that's about it

So the cams weren't designed to lift the valves less (as someone explained to me)?

Got a picture posted on the introductions page now!

You will notice a significant increase in power, and I found a lower fuel consumption too but not sure if it is directly related to that.
