I know the Isuzu engine was original spec for the Perentie - but did civilian Stage One's come with that motor in Australia or is that part of the "prototype package" the seller is claiming?

For the cash the seller is asking - I would want floor mats and door cards - but I am soft and crave nice things.

The Isuzu engine was a completely normal option in those parts :)

Current exchange rates puts that at about £22,500. Perfectly reasonable price for a fully restored Stage 1 in my opinion. People are paying far more for unremarkable Defenders so what's so shocking about this for a rare s3 stage 1? My own restoration will have cost me north of £15k by the time I've finished and that's not counting the many hours of hard work I'll have put in.
I think you're way out out of touch with the cost of things and of the value of restored collectors'/enthusists' restorations.

No.
I've advocated for years that Australia is an economical source of vehicles but you almost never see it taken up. Save for overpriced units that end up in the States. Though these typically start off as cheap local buys.
You can pick up a 3.9D for well under $20 and this keeps you within exceptional 110 as well. Although the seller hasn't mentioned the R word, none of the rusty minor fittings have been replated, wheels are the wrong colour, no signs of rust proofing, the mandatory for road use demister is missing, a non approved turbo on a model that has performance restrictions.... all at a premium price.

sort of off topic - but you mentioned the wheels are the wrong color. What color is the truck? It appears to be white roof, white wheels, and sand body. But I know computer monitors are all a little bit different, photos can be taken in odd light, and I am slightly color blind.

I am starting a restoration of a 5 door here in the USA and I was thinking about choosing the white and sand color scheme but was not sure if there was enough contrast in the two colors to make it look ok. All sand is too monochromatic, I think. I like sand over red the most - but I already have a truck with that color scheme..... (I know it all boils down to personal taste - but it is hard when you do not know what you want, yourself)

But back to original topic, the price equates to about $30,000 USD (+ or -). That is about what our local market demands for a really nice truck (normally with a galvanized frame) - in country and final price. I think shipping and customs on top of that advertised price tag would make this particular truck less than price-competitive in our market.

... also, what is "mandatory for road use demister". From what I can see in the photos, the dash has the corrugated tubes leading from the lower heater plenum to the windshield vents. Is there something else required in Australia? (This might be two common languages calling the same thing different names?)

Sahara dust, Arctic white. Just like that vehicle register we're supposed to have somewhere on this site. You'd find lots of other Land-Rover 3.9D in such a register too.

It is only a LWB so at best the two tunnel mats (missing) and plain brown door cards. The plastic covers on the seat belt top mounts (missing) are standard. Though you might also expect new seat belts rather than 40 year old originals.

So what's blowing air through those demister tubes? The seller was probably to worried about the oversized turbo to worry about such minor road legal issues.

Got it. I missed that it is missing the fan and heater box. That is a disappointment.

I replaced my original limestone wheels on my limestone 5 door with tubeless wheels that came painted white. I did wonder how they would look and if they would 'clash' but I think they look ok and will keep them that colour. I think the all limestone was a bit boring and rather 'dated' looking and the white wheels make it look a tad more 'modern' - so it's strange I like it because generally I try to keep everything original, but I'm not obsessive about it - it is a personal matter, and I certainly don't get too exercised about colour - as you can see my front doortops have no paint at all and I'm very happy with them like that! :) :

Strong prices - both for the messed-up Stage One, and the rotten "Game" :)

There's a reason people call it scumtree. But like car sales.com, sellers just pick prices from the aether without any reference to reality.

Had to deal with a Sprite yesterday that happens to be on for $12000. It needs about $5000 for registration, starting with the "missing" horn (owner insists it used to work).... Same owner story with the wipers "they just stopped one day". Someone's buggered with a wheel-box and they wipe in opposite directions. There weren't any fuses in the fuse box... and the owner just expected to spend a couple of hundred to fix all his woes.

Not really bad for the price if the Isuzu is OK.
