Looking for a distributor to replace the electronic Range Rover dizzy that is currently fitted and doesn't seem to want to work

Thanks

Not sure if you're looking for a new one, but SimonBBC has a good reputation - I'll be fitting one of his kits most likely, but he does sell individual distributors as well -

Not sure what not working means, but I would suggest you replace with electronic ignition or Pertronix electronic igniter. With Pertronix, you also need to replace your coil.

I can't get a spark. There is power to the coil but I suspect the electronic unit has packed up.

From your description, it is just as likely be the coil itself.

You say you have electronic ignition. What kind?

So I've been told it's off an early rangerover and looks like this

Someone had chopped the connector of the white wires as well.

And what kind of electronic ignition?

Looking at the coil tells me nothing. It is not relevant that it is from a Range Rover. It is not hard to tell if the coil is releasing its capacitive charge. Creating an air gap between the distributor lead and an earth will show a spark if it working. A bench test will give a better (more accurate) result. See http://www.wikihow.com/Test-an-Ignition-Coil for guidance.

I'm told Its a Land Rover factory electronic ignition from an early 3.5 Rangerover rather than an aftermarket electronic system (I don't know what manufacturer this would have been produced by for them) and an aftermarket electronic system cannot be retrofitted in its place.

The dizzy is fitted with one of these.

I do need to double check the king lead spark but had thought there wasn't one last time I tried.

In that case, my advice is to dump the coil and distributor innards and replace them both with a Pertronix coil and ignitor. Get them both from Summit Racing.

Coil: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/pnx-45011
Ignitor: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/pnx-9ml-182 replaces the points/electronic ignition. You need to check this because this is for the Mallory dizzy. You could actually ask Pertronix. They do have a fairly good help line.
