Well 'Kate the V8' has been back on the British roads for a full year now. MOT is booked for this saturday morning.
l only managed 600miles last year so as long as the indicator stalk and the hazard warning pull switch behaves themself we should be ok!

watch this space on saturday morning.

Kate has another mot! 2 years on the trot now. :D
Had to replace the bushes in the front springs. A new track rod end and tighten the steering box. Thought the steering was fine during my pre mot checks obviously not
Word of warning- I have the Paddocks own brand parabolic's. they have only done 600miles and some light green lanes and a trail. Not impressed for that short a time that the bushes needed replacing.

Plans for 2013 for Kate:
Fit tubular manifold and exhaust system
Bench seats to rear,
Look into water proofing methods and fitting the snorkel.
Waterproof the canvas
Fit a radio
Make some rock sliders to protect the cills.
GET MORE USE FROM HER AND ENJOY BEING A SOFT TOP!

Regards
Harry

You should not be surprised.

I have had different periods with bushes, some have only lasted months albeit with some fairly heavy treatment offroad. The new ones I have now have been there for about two years now.

I wonder how long the bushes were in the springs before you got them? They will be likely to perish, even when they are just sitting on the shelf, before the springs were installed into your vehicle.

I have a MOT again!!!!!!!!

steering was fine - just a seized steering damper. first item they took off to check the steering and found they couldnt move it. replaced with a standard rangerover damper and its all good now.

get to collect the truck tomorrow evening from the garage and see the difference.

No advisorys or problems. very pleased now. :D

next task's - sort the gearbox and stop it jumping out of low range and have a propper play in it. :)

massive difference in the steering now. much more lighter and precise than before. amazing how you get accustom to it.
took the misses for a drive in it last night and let her drive it down the green lane to the pub for dinner to cheer her up after a prang in her own car.

need to increase the tick over speed as notices low oil pressure when crawling along the green lane in 1st, engine ticking over at approx 500rpm. Oil pressure rose as engine speed increased but that meant we were going too fast for the conditions.
must also sort out the damn LT95 as its whining is getting rather anoying

last weekend, used the landy for a mountain bike event - got out to the wood at the back of the course - parked up to set out the race course - back to the landy afterwards to find it wont start!!! :(
a tow out of the woods later and home - naff all charge in the battery.

£60 later and a reconditioned alternator - kate is back on the road and driving strong. old unit must have been at least 8 years old and never had been looked at, repaired or given any love.
quite a easy fix fortunately which is nice. :D
next job - get the rangy LT95 ready to go into kate -

A quick oil change with my dad who had popped up for the day. Sump drain plug was seized but lucky we had a siphon pump. Got to check the antifreeze next

I was finally able to have a night free for checking over the Kate before the MOT this Monday...
bit of a scrape around the rear X-member identified these lovely beauties on both sides. be cancelling that MOT now l think! damn.
needs another tickle with the angle grinder to make it a bit easier to get a plate to fit in.

Sucks. So glad we don't salt roads here.

Still, at least it is sorted and you know it is safer.

I knew it was getting crispy back there. The truck was based on the Isle of Man which is in the middle of the Irish Sea, it has its own micro climate and lots of salt, being a police truck l am sure the rear has been in the sea before and somebody has plated the rear x-member. (By throwing weld at it from across the workshop by the look of the original repair).
I will be getting busy in the next few weeks with the under seal on the chassis.
Need to get into the chassis rails and get them cleaned out and some wax oil blasted inside.

Enjoy your salt free roads! (Don't rub it in) :)
