First wing wing will take ages, second, not so much.

No such thing as a quick job eh?

Well today was spent trying to remove the lh wing.
Got front grill off, unplugged the loom, found more rust within the passenger footwell,
Getting to the bolts up the inside of the wing on the bulk head is proving a pain in the arse. Quick job like hell!
My friends 6 year old likes to drive the landy but won't climb up inside the wing to undo the damn bolts,

Hello, another update,
LH wing now off, to get to the bolt at the top of the wing on the inside - had to remove the heater and access in via the vent hole.
LH manifold off and the tubular manifold trail fitted with no clashes with the chassis. However one of the pipes is very close to the chassis rail, 1-2mm at most, am sure that with the engine running and rocking it will strike the chassis, easiest option would be to use the ball end of a hammer and dent the tube but that kind of defeats the point of tubular manifolds. plus once they are wrapped they will defiantly clash. looks like l am going to have to trim a section of the chassis rail in that part.
the spring hanger bolt doesn't clash but is very close - not to sure what to do here - might be able to trim the bolt a little but could also do with trimming a few mm from the nut as well. will then lock wire the two hanger bolts to ensure that doesn't loosen and come off. not great ideas so if anybody has any suggestions...
also the passenger foot well needs replacing. the plate l made years ago is fine, the rest of the bulkhead is slowly rotting away so better get it done correctly now.

Progress is looking good!

What are you doing with the old manifold? If it's looking for a new home let me know!

day off today so managed to remove the RH wing -Disco2hse your correct - took a 1/4 of the time to remove this time. Angle grinder certainly sped the matter up.

removed the original RH manifold and trial fitted the tubular manifold. :? it seems to be clashing with the starter motor, it was dark and l was in the dog house for not washing up and clearing the dishwasher so wings back on and will have to wait till the weekend again the check and try again. pipes look like they will run very close to the starter motor so will need a heat shield fitting
also started to wrap the manifolds. Until next time.....

interesting video.

bit more time today so wing off and removed the small heat shield from the chassis rail.
the RH pipe is clashing with the side mounted solenoid on the starter motor.

I will need a starter motor with the solenoid underneath the starter motor which l believe the rover saloons had due to their lack of space.
Searches so far for cars with the rover V8 are SD1/P6/MGB GT V8/TR7 V8. Part number I think is GXE4442R???

Does anybody have a starter motor with a underneath solenoid or even know the correct part number.

its another cost and pain to do but these little challenges are fun. am sure the sound, the fact l can use low range, and have a clean chassis will be worth it.

Fun day with my dad on Saturday removing the gear box in the rain.
That's the easy cheap bit done now. The shopping list is growing for parts.

Good stuff. :D

How may other cars do have the option of which way you'll take the gearbox out, and undo some bolts accordingly.

Can't help with the starter. Mine is 24V and they are getting increasingly rare.

Changed the clutch plate at the weekend as I had a brand new spare one. there was plenty of life in the old one but as it was available - why not.
got the wire brush cup on the angle grinder on the chassis to give it a tidy up, the amount of moisture in the atmosphere would make any painting a waste of time - wishing l had a nice dry Aussie/NZ garden shed right now!

Merry Christmas everyone!

new gearbox finally cleaned up, front output shafts changed over and with new shaft seal, rear drum brake cleaned up, oil cleaned out, ready for new oil once fitted.

managed to badly damage my back in the process so works have been rather slow.
next problem is to get the box back in the truck, back movement is rather limited.

the pipe from #5 cylinder is clashing with the chassis rail,
what are the thought to trimming a bit out of the chassis and welding a new dished section in?
have given the pipe a bang with the hammer but not overly keen, a couple of big hits haven't made much of a dent. don't want to end up putting a hole in them. do not have means to heat them
