The MoT is the worst part of old LR ownership. Always a nerve wracking time.

Don't know if the feeling when you pass is happiness or relief!

Well done for another year.

lucky it lasts for a year. the MOT equivalent here in NZ is for 6 months for any vehicle older than 5 years old.

I don't think I could deal with the stress of getting the test done every 6 months! :)

Mind you there's theoretically less chance of things deteriorating to a point where they become dangerous/fail the test in 6 months.

Would be interesting to see the spec for the NZ Test.

The check is extensive and is constantly changing, depending upon which aparatchiki are in power at the time (and how ridiculous the requirements become). Here is a basic checklist though:
http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/certif ... -specs.pdf

There are updates about every quarter.

Essentially anything that is built onto the car at manufacture must work satisfactorily. If you make substantial changes to the vehicle after it is built then these changes need to be certified and and approved and an additional plaque is fixed to the firewall. From then on they get included in WOF checks as though they were there when it as built.

How and what are checked involves quite a lot of detail, of course.
