Re: Restoration

TBH, I'd have got it rodded and had the pipes pressure checked before doing that. It's fine. Remember it was running ok with no leaks or noticable problems before I started the strip down and restore. It has no leaks, is clean inside and in great nick. It had already been reconditioned as part of t...

Re: Restoration

Keep tripping over the radiator I'd put inside the workshop for safe keeping, so thought I'd do the refurb and get it refitted to the vehicle. It's in good condition but paint flaking and a bit of rust on brackets, etc. https://i.postimg.cc/MZNKtxxq/IMG-20210601-110555.jpg Paint stripper gets the pa...

Re: Restoration

A bit more done today, new heater matrix and heater control valve. I was scratching my head wondering how I was going to fit the heater control valve mounting bracket to the edelbrock performer inlet manifold, then realised it was bolted to the head. Only one bolt so hopefully it won't work loose. I...

Re: Restoration

RH manifold today. I still have the old monstrosity but it does the job. It still had a sheared off stud in that wouldn't shift. After trying all the usual methods and wasting time getting nowhere, I opted to drill it out. Set it up on my pillar drill and tried for a dead centred and level drilling....

Re: Thrust washer thickness..

Not sure of sizes. I ordered my rebuild kit from synchro gearboxes so maybe they may be able to answer your questions (and supply parts).

Re: Restoration

The downpipe I ordered arrived today, so straight out to test my plan. First of all I took the front section with existing LH and RH down pipes and undid the clamps holding the downpipes in place. https://i.postimg.cc/6pCmVDj7/IMG-20210511-135310.jpg Freed the LH downpipe and separated it https://i....

Re: Restoration

A photo of your setup would be handy. I may have underestimated things.

Re: Restoration

Don't see why not, doesn't take up any more space than the original. It's just the position for the downpipe that's different.

Re: Restoration

I decided enough procrastinating over the exhaust. I don't want to go off on the whole new system diversion at this stage so opted for a replacement LH manifold for the knackered original. It's quite a job sifting through various parts catalogues trying to identify the version that was fitted to a p...

Re: Where does the overflow tube go to ?

To the inlet manifold, it's the return from manifold to the rad.

Re: Restoration

Fitted new dizzy today. I was struggling to see the very faded timing marks on the crank pulley, so first order of the day was to restore them so I can see them. I'd already turned the crank so that it was on combustion stroke on number one cylinder. That's why rocker cover is off again so that I co...

Re: Restoration

What with a long wet winter and cold spring, compounded by health issue flare ups and covid lockdowns, there has been no progress on my project since the last updates. I did make a short YouTube video of unwrapping it and inspecting before resuming work but that was about as far as I got. https://yo...
