Re: Hello from Yorkshire

Thanks for that - I definitely haven't got the valve then  Looks like I'll need to start digging to see if I can find the correct part and bracket/s etc. Re the airbox, I actually managed to get one of eBay last week, complete with the elbows, but thanks for your kind offer - if I hadn't bought...

Re: battery tray

Ideally I want to keep the two batteries under one seat so that I can fit a second fuel tank under the other seat - as per an 88/SWB. I want the 'leisure' battery to have a hefty Amp/hr rating (at least 100) so that I can run the fridge over a weekend without worrying about totally draining it. The ...

Re: Hello from Yorkshire

Managed to bag another LT85 at the weekend - fitted with an overdrive too :) I reckon the one in the Stage 1 is toast - the noises it was making were painful and sounded terminal - it'll need a full overhaul before being usable IMHO. I'm undecided whether to keep it for spares, or strip off any dece...

Re: Hello all

That looks promising! Delighted that you're rebuilding her rather than breaking her for bits. I'll be following your rebuild closely, looking forward to it :D

Re: Hello from Yorkshire

The tank will be suitable treated before I install it  Brushable seam sealant around the joins then painted in black stonechip. Inside treated with POR15 fuel tank sealant treatment http://www.amazon.co.uk/POR-15-petrol-Sealer-Performance-Prevention/dp/B001NG8I8G/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie...

Re: Hello from Yorkshire

While I'm here, I have two questions - firstly, what is this? It only has one wire 'connected' (!) so I don't think its actually doing anything. I vaguely recall something called a ballast resistor but its been decades since I've had a points distributor on a car  http://duckfieldengineering.c...

Re: Hello from Yorkshire

I did a bit of work to the landy yesterday after receiving a few goodies - http://duckfieldengineering.com/forums/LR/goodies.png http://duckfieldengineering.com/forums/LR/fuel-tank.png All around the old girl stinks of petrol and looking at the tank its evident that the lower edge seams have blown a...

Re: battery tray

Thanks for that disco2hse, never heard of a 24V Stage 1 before! I take it they were for towing Rapiers instead of the 101s? Yes, I'll be fitting a VSR split charge system - I fitted a National Luna one to my old Td5 Disco which worked great. I ensured I removed it all before selling that Landy, so I...

Re: battery tray

Thanks Alicerover. I had seen those dbl battery trays but it looks like they're to fit under the passenger seat not the driver seat as in the Stage 1? I guess if I have to move the battery over to the other side it wouldn't be too big a job, but I'm trying to keep it as factory standard as possible ...

battery tray

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but as I was wondering about it while I'm logged on here I thought I'd ask - is there room for two large batteries to be fitted under the driver's seat? I want to fit a split charge system and ideally have both batteries together to keep the cable runs nice ...

Re: Hello from Yorkshire

Thanks for that. I've got plenty of 10W40 in the garage so I'll use that for now - if the gearbox leaks as badly as I'm suspecting, it'll be getting fresh oil weekly  Collecting the new fuel tank and service parts tomorrow. Got a genuine 1982 LR workshop manual for a Range Rover, so I now have...

WTD: Safari roof and extra long Brownchurch roofrack

As part of the prep of my newly acquired Stage 1 Regular, I'm after a Safari roof - in good condition and complete with all vents and ideally the liner. I'm also after an extra long Brownchurch roofrack - the type that goes over the windscreen and has the support struts at the front, as per the pic ...

Re: Hello from Yorkshire

Thanks for that Alan. Yes one of the first things I do to a new acquisition is renew all the fluids and filters. I understand the gearbox takes engine oil - would 10W40 be ok in the gearbox? I've seen various mentions of 20W50 but that seems a bit thick? Or is that the preferred weight for the gearb...
