Frankly I would think the Stage 1 would be a safer vehicle than that power machine.

Weight for weight the V8 is far less powerful than your car. On the other hand, it has no air bags ;) Come to think of it, nor does the latest Defender (on the passenger's side a least).

Have fun Aaron. Remember though that smaller isn't always better in the off-road world, but parent are always right.

My Stage 1 is 25 now and hopefully will still be going strong when you are ;)

I use 95. The power difference is noticeable cf 91 and idle is much better too.

I'd keep away from bio-fuels with high concentrations though.

But then again, if there's no petrol you could always use vodka :)

In which case I'd check out Forward Spec's for new parts.

Don't think you would ever get perfect second hand parts, given the age of them now ;)

Hey there Davo, Yes the army did sell off its Landies. The parts have been distributed widely, having been sold at auction. So as for where you can get spares I would suggest putting a parts wanted ad on Trademe.co.nz, or putting a request through the local clubs http://www.nz4wd.co.nz/wawcs0113567/...

Check out Landy Heaven. They had several last time I enquired. Good people to deal with too.

Hmm, not sure what happened there. My post disappeared.

Anyway. I can't really answer your question because I've never fitted an overdrive. The pto comes out the rear of the transfer case though.
