Re: Restoration

Well finally, after a whole year having to sort out my Discovery 2, and then several aborted attempts, the weather has finally improved enough to get back to work. Didn't do a whole lot though as I spent most of the day trying to identify and remember where the tangle of wires I'd left hanging from ...

Re: Restoration

Did I tell the story about the wind shredded garage tent? I can't remember anymore for the turmoil. To recap, the cover gave up through UV damage and got ripped open in the last lot of storm weather. I struggled to lash something temporary together to try and keep the worst of the rain off of the St...

Re: Restoration

I managed to lash something together with a large DPM sheet I had tucked away. Bit of a struggle on my own but hopefully it will suffice (it won't stand up to a gale) until I can replace the cover. I have replacement on order but no delivery date. The Stage One is also covered with a tarp so fingers...

Re: Restoration

While the Stage One has been patiently waiting for me to sort out my Discovery 2, there has been a bit of weather. Hot sun and UV now followed by a bit of thunder, lightning, and wind! https://i.postimg.cc/zBdMVb8n/IMG-20221024-125717.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/qqzFnJvW/IMG-20221024-125756.jpg Guess w...

Re: Restoration

Blimey, you're welcome. I'm fighting to get my Discovery 2 repaired and back on the road at the moment, so work on the 109 has been temporarily halted. I hope to be able to resume soon.

Re: New stage 1 owner - help registering with DLVA?

The generic statement for CKD is we have nothing and we won't even look, therefore they won't issue anything and refund the money you already paid. There is an Australian heritage group that have nothing to do with BMH. Ex staff old boys club. They do issue certificates, based on the data YOU provi...

Re: New stage 1 owner - help registering with DLVA?

BMH quote a generic excuse of disinterest for anything CKD. You would have to go there and book research time yourself. Ask stereotypical 'owner' questions and they won't let you in. Yep, but if you can afford to just buy a certificate then they issue it with whatever they have in the LR records ag...

Re: New stage 1 owner - help registering with DLVA?

The VIN that you quote is SALLBCMV1AF504898 and decodes: Model Series III, Stage I or Lightweight Class 109 inch Body Type 5 door station wagon Model Year 1981 Steering RHD Engine 3.5 V8, Carburettor, Low Compression, Petrol Gearbox 4 Speed Manual Factory Completely Knocked Down Sequential number 50...

Re: New stage 1 owner - help registering with DLVA?

Presumably when you checked the VIN here in the UK, it confirmed an export model (AUS) CSW. You say it has zero paperwork so I take it that there's no registration number either? Interesting that a vehicle would be imported 12 years ago and never registered. Not sure what you're supposed to do in th...

Re: LT95 Value?

I sold it to a fella who has fully restored a stage one (well he had it done for him). Seems he had a rebuilt engine fitted which had staged heads and power cam, etc. Unfortunately his builders neglected to match the power of the new engine with his gearbox and diffs and he destroyed them as a conse...

Re: hazard switch wiring circuit

I'll have one somewhere as I fitted a NOS kit some years ago. Two plugs to interpose with the trafficator plug. Two extra wires for the additional (larger) flasher, the flasher and holder and I think one extra loose wire going to the fuse box? Plus what now feeds to the dash centre to plug into the...

hazard switch wiring circuit

Does anyone here have a copy of the circuit diagram for the stage one? I have the optional parts harness which was fitted, but it had some diy relay wiring added by somebody which has made it confusing to sort out. I could really do with a decent schematic.
cheers.

Re: Restoration

Hi, On the speedo under the ring there is rubber or something (what you removed with dichloromethane). Did you replace it with spare or just placed metal ring on top of the glass? Just asking as hit the same issue with mine I've just put it back together without the rubber gaskets for now. I've sin...

Re: Restoration

Rewiring Not much progress today. I only got about 3 hours on it. I started refurbishing the speedometer but gave it up as a bad job before I did something silly like break the glass. It has either glued itself down on the old and perished gasket, or 'that person' has been there before me and used ...

Re: Restoration

Rewiring I bit the bullet and got stuck in to my re-wire today. What a pig of a job trying to neatly route the loom through the exhaust heat shield and connecting up to the starter motor with such restricted access, and having already suffered putting the old harness back in only to be taking it ba...
