So, there is a sulphur content in the EP oils, but what gear oils do not contain sulphur compounds of one form or another? When I was looking into this further last night, I came across this on an MX6 forum: http://www.mx6.com/forums/1g-mx6-general/68448-manual-transmission-fluid-change.html#post50...

What triggered it was this: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-chatter/96232-lt95-transfer-case-intermediate-shaft-wear.html The use of EP90 , was the reason 75% of the transfercases I overhauled , blew up !! Usually the same scenario , Step 1 get it serviced Step 2 Nice and cheap at the Local K-ma...

From something I have just discovered. DO NOT USE EP or EPX oils in the gearbox or transfer case, this oil contains suphur and phosphorus and can corrode yellow metals (which the LT95 has) under high temperatures. If you are going to use a gearbox oil make sure it specifically says it doesn't contai...

Dear Stirlsiver, Very impressive, Perhaps you could use the occasion and inpout an (Gear box-winsh). Hi Landdani, thank you. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment to install a PTO winch on this gearbox... it would be nice to have a winch!! Ah well, I'll just have to do going without. Alr...

I wouldn't have thought it was caused by low oil because I never let the oil level in my gearbox run low. And I think if it was a case of over heating I would imagine that you would have the tell tale blue heat treatment signs. Not sure though. Either way, I need to figure out a solution. I have a f...

Alright, so I'm back from the christmas holidays and I got back in to getting this gearbox back together. Sorry about the rubbish photos... I had to use my mobile phone this time. It was all going along reasonably smoothly until I ran into some problems with the 4th gear syncro... anyway you will fi...

Ok, so the rebuilding has started. I haven't really been bothered updating the last couple of weeks work... mainly because it has been pretty slow going... From the condition of the main shaft that came out of gearbox 2 (the one in my car) it appeared that the bearing inner race was slipping far les...

Alright, I have been a little slack with the updating... Basically all I did last week was separate the engine and gearbox, mount the engine on an engine stand and pressure wash the gearbox to try and get off the casing of mud that was all over it! Today I set to starting to pull gearbox #2 apart (t...

Righto, despite a lot of work, I only have a short post. Today consisted of getting the engine and gearbox out of the car. The job was fairly easy as I took the front guards off the car so there was plenty of access to the car. With two hoists and removing one of the gearbox mounting brackets (and r...

Hi The marks on the shaft and colour are from a spinning inner bearing race i bet the inner face of the bearing is the same colour . I would replace both the shaft and the bearing if the shaft is expensive i would look in to having the shaft spray metalled then reground back to correct size. Hope t...

The front axle is driven by a drive shaft that has a double cardan universal on it. For this system the input flange of the differential is actually in line with the drive shaft. The way this is achieved is the pads that the springs sit on the axle are rotated to give the right angle. I learnt this ...
