Years ago this happened with my brother's SIII. I made a little tool out of thin sheet metal and it worked. Sorry, but I don't have a way of posting a photo of it. Essentially, the tool just held the plastic clip's arms open a little bit so that it would slide on. So, yes, it is possible.

About the only difference I can think of is the transmission tunnel area. It's bigger for the Stage I. Also, the hole for the brake pedal will be longer for the dual-circuit system, if (I think) the SIII single-circuit system bulkheads have the smaller hole like the SIIA ones do. That's about all I ...
