HOMS? What's that?

Your trip sounds good - nothing like a V8, hey?

Nice stuff! You sound like a mad bunch over there! Don't forget to check the camshaft. The V8 wears out camshafts fairly quickly.

Centre Diff Lock Switch Hose Connections

I think someone was asking about this a while ago and I think no-one could say for sure which vacuum hose goes where. I'm in the middle of wrecking an old Range Rover so I made sure to check before I took it all apart. On the back of the difflock switch, there are three little pipes. If you hold the...

Oh dear, looks like a bit of confusion! The County - or more correctly called, as someone else pointed out, the early 110 - CVs are supposed to be as strong as the Stage I. The Stage I had some of the strongest CVs from the Land-Rover range, so no worries there. The 110 CVs are shorter, and apparent...

I have a Stage I speedo drive pinion I've just had a look at and it has 20 teeth on it. The worm gear, which is a bit harder to describe, has 5 teeth across at an angle of about 10 degrees. Hopefully that will help someone trying to identify a part. So, to clarify: A Stage I speedo head is the same ...

A big thanks for that.

Too bad the Aussie Army didn't get those instead of the six-cylinders!

Wow, that's getting pretty complicated. I already looked into this as I'm turning my SIIA into a Stage I. I found the the 109" speedos are all the same. It's the drive gears in the gearbox that are different. That's why there's no mention of a particular Stage I speedo in the parts book, which ...

I can't run around with my stage 1 for ever since at the end of the day it is leaf sprung/drum braked/non power steered Geez . . . you kids! I've just clocked up 19 years with my Series, and that's been without the luxury of a V8! Oh well, go for a County if you like your Stage I. It's pretty much ...

Years ago this happened with my brother's SIII. I made a little tool out of thin sheet metal and it worked. Sorry, but I don't have a way of posting a photo of it. Essentially, the tool just held the plastic clip's arms open a little bit so that it would slide on. So, yes, it is possible.

Okay, I get you now. Yup, it looks like your solution is about the only way to go and if you're going to build a "proper" box later then you're on the right track. I'm just about to start an LT95 rebuild myself. Good luck with it and let us know how you go!

Yeah, I sort of suspected that when it wasn't listed separately in the parts book! Thanks for the confirmation!

I'm a little confused by this, though I read it a few times! Are you saying that because the flange on the front output is so big, it's hitting the side of the main gearbox housing? Did you try the Stage I output shaft and housing? They are peculiar to the model. The output shaft housing is longer t...

Speedo Head

I need one and don't have an old one as I'm in the middle of doing a conversion. Can you even buy them new these days?

About the only difference I can think of is the transmission tunnel area. It's bigger for the Stage I. Also, the hole for the brake pedal will be longer for the dual-circuit system, if (I think) the SIII single-circuit system bulkheads have the smaller hole like the SIIA ones do. That's about all I ...
