Re: Restoration
I've now been out and removed the frame from the tank; results are pretty good all said and done. Yep, the welding wire didn't fare any better and had dissolved leaving the charger O/C; however, it had lasted long enough for the remaining rust to be converted/removed. I now know how to improve the s...

Re: Restoration
Yep, ideal would be to use steel plates around tank and have no wires in the liquid at all (that's how I was setup in my small tank), however, I don't have a load of "spare" steel to sacrifice. I really need to do this with a controllable power supply so that I can turn down the amps. As I...

Re: Restoration
Ah, after thinking about it, I think I've messed up using the battery charger and using thin wire to connect up my sacrificial steel. The wires are in the electrolyte (alkaline softened water) which won't have much resistance, so considering ohms law and all that, its probably pulling quite a high c...

Re: Restoration
Bonnet I had left the bonnet aside after removing the steel support frame from the Birmabright skin. https://i.postimg.cc/gkkt0zjw/IMG-20230726-120153.jpg The frame is like most of the steel parts after their 42 years of exposure to air, cold, heat, and moisture. Not too bad as it happens, but defi...

Re: Restoration
I've only managed to fit in a few jobs since last update. The transmission tunnel steel sections needed a bit of TLC where corrosion had done its thing. The so called 'gearbox diaphragm' (MRC5357), was rotten both ends where it supports the floor panels https://i.postimg.cc/sg2TQQvk/IMG-20230810-121...

Re: Restoration
Reading a forum post about fitting new jets, I thought to myself, oh shite, I forgot to put the tube back. Sorted it out today.

Re: Restoration
Back to doing some work then. The bonnet is next on the list. There's a bit of corrosion on the steel support frame so it will need to come out and have some work done. https://i.postimg.cc/YSmswd9b/IMG-20230725-131638.jpg It's quite eaten away at the front ends https://i.postimg.cc/cHRkv6f3/IMG-202...

Re: Restoration
Those missing brackets where driving me insane; where the hell are they? Sorted through my photos and look ... https://i.postimg.cc/W32FLb68/brackets.jpg ... they're there. I took them off the panel stripping it apart. I have searched through my bags of bits taken off, boxes of bits that live in the...

Re: Restoration
I've been dry fitting the front wings and panel to make sure it all goes where it's supposed to before I commit to paint. I've spent more time searching for the 2 front angle brackets that secure the front grill to the panel than actually fitting anything. I took them off but have no idea where they...

Re: Restoration
After mulling over what to do with the seat box I decided it would be a whole lot easier to just replace the rusting boxes. I didn't feel motivated enough to remove rust, modify to take a bigger or duel battery setup, and try to make good, so opted to order new aluminium boxes from YRM. I would have...

Re: Restoration
The heater blower is not really a priority right now and I want to push on, so turned my attention to the seat box. It's in good condition apart from one end panel that has some corrosion damage, and a lot of surface rust on the outside of the battery and tool boxes. https://i.postimg.cc/fWSjzkz9/IM...

Re: Restoration
Heater Blower The last part that had been sitting in the pile with the dash parts was the heater blower. I made a start on this while I was doing the crash pad repair. I stripped it down and put the snail and some brackets, etc., in the electrolysis bath to de-rust. Not sure what happened, but I ca...

Re: Restoration
Carrying on with repairs. Next on the list is the upper dash crash padding. Like so many, mine has cracked and has damage to the foam padding. A previous owner had made an extremely poor attempt at a repair with some god awful silicone. I pulled that off and cleared the damage so that I could better...
