Re: Restoration

Well, thank you :) Thought before I weldup the driver side footwell, best check it still fits. So tacked the footwell in place and carried the whole assembly to the vehicle. https://i.postimg.cc/NfJh2dBt/20190412-120944.jpg Well that's a relief, still fits. https://i.postimg.cc/GmVZq94S/20190412-121...

Re: Restoration

Next up the small patch. https://i.postimg.cc/nLPxNvbk/20190406-185924.jpg Working on the basis that each old repair I've looked at so far has had rot underneath it, I can't really afford to leave it untouched, besides, aesthetically, I find it unbearable to look at even if it will be hidden behind ...

Re: Restoration

With the paint out of the way and getting a better view of what was hiding underneath, I decided to sort things out. I started with the horrible looking bodgeup in the centre, which had dodgy welding and filler on top of rot. https://i.postimg.cc/Y2g7yGX6/20190406-190120.jpg I peeled back the overrl...

Re: Restoration

Finished off the footwell stiffener and plug welded it in place https://i.postimg.cc/25f3Nj7J/20190405-172335.jpg The poor repairs visible through the rubbish paint job have been niggeling at me, so I decided to strip the paint off and get a proper look at what's hiding. So, out with the paint strip...

Re: Restoration

Work continues. Although superficially, it looked in great shape needing minimal repairs, it has thrown up a few issues. The bulkhead is not the original and whoever replaced it, either repaired the replacement or bought an already repaired replacement. Either way, I've inherited some pretty poor pa...

Re: Restoration

Before I started welding, I was reminded to make sure it was going to fit back onto the chassis bulkhead outriggers. After a lot of measuring and re-measuring, I drilled a piece of box section I had to hand so that I could bolt the feet to it and keep everything where it needs to be. The complicatio...

Re: NEW Stage 1 Project

Hello Raymond. I'm doing the same. Some very helpful people here. The forum is not that busy as there are obviously not so many Stage 1's around nowadays, but the people who are here are pretty knowledgable and generous. Get the photos up and share with us. Good luck with the project.

Re: Restoration

All the usual places really. I shall be doing my repairs utilising copious amounts of weld through seam sealant. It should last at least as long as I will that way

Re: Restoration

Got the driver's side footwell out today. https://i.postimg.cc/qB63YpHv/20190309-155834.jpg The deeper I get into this, the more I find. Seems there is a lot more rot hidden away than I first thought. https://i.postimg.cc/nrm9QGGD/20190309-155842.jpg I'll just work my way through slowly, find the ro...

Re: Restoration

I'm trying to be methodical and thorough. Could have just patched it but I'd rather get it as sound as I can and then It won't have to to be done again.

Re: Restoration

While I'm waiting for an order of bulkhead and seal replacement parts to arrive, I made a start at removing the rot from the bulkhead. I'm not the first one here. This bulkhead already had repairs done in the past. Shame the work wasn't done well enough to prevent the problems I now need to resolve....

Re: Restoration

And the seat box and side seals are off. Sprayed a can of degreaser on the greasy dirty bits and gave it a bit of a scrub. Needs a pressure wash now. https://i.postimg.cc/595hYRJt/20190225-172410.jpg Getting a bit daunting now. Taking stuff apart is relatively easy; repairs and reassembly takes a bi...
