That's a very nice piece of kit. There's plenty of knowledge on this site so ask away.

It’s not for me to say but you are sitting on an appreciating asset so if you are going to the trouble of changing its colour then I would definitely consider putting it back to the original colour. If it were blue then it would have been either marine blue (standard) or pageant blue – like a royal ...

I went to the Peterborough show yesterday. A very good show overall although I didn’t think it was worth the £15 each to get in. It’s ok if you’re into severe off roading and checker plate. There is only so much bolt on bling one can take. Some good people there and it was good to see the old clubs ...

Welcome, It’s nice to hear about another one of these beasts being put back in to use. Whatever colour you choose will be better than the current scheme – interesting mould green you have there; lol. Do you know what colour it was originally as most of the Stage 1’s had some very striking colours wh...

The stage 1 manifolds are unique to the beast but I believe the right hand one to vary by year depending on whether it has the Detox kit or not. In any case the downpipe attaches to the centre of the manifold regardless of what side it is. I’ve no idea what a RRC manifold looks like but I suspect th...

Sounds good to me. This website however has been an invaluable source of information so it would be good to keep a link to it.

The only part numbers that I can lay my hands on at the moment are 242139 and NRC5942, the latter being 1980 onwards. Note* these are the Stage 1 part numbers but contradict what items are available as these numbers still show up as standard SIII lifting eyes. We already know that the Stage 1’s are ...

The Stage 1 lifting eyes have a longer plate than on the examples you show. This plate passes under the front panel and secures using the existing bumper to dumb iron bolts. The front bolts simply bolt through the bumper. To answer your question – it would depend on the load that you intend to apply...

I could never sleep at night knowing that there are pieces of metal floating around in my engine, particularly around the timing gears. Obviously remove what you can from the dizzy hole and then have a good feel around with a telescopic magnet to try and account for all of the missing pieces; assumi...

Very nice. What a difference a decent climate makes – your chassis looks like new and your springs don’t have any rust on them. If I were to spot the difference then the wheels look like one ton spec with longer spring hangers. The pipe coming up from the exhaust manifold used for heating the air in...

I tried to buy this one blind about six months ago but missed out on it by about five minutes! In hindsight I'm glad I eventually bought the one I ended up with, but this one although it needs work, looks very original and unmolested which is what interested me. I also like it in white.

Tyres

Can anyone recommend a good general purpose tyre for the Stage 1? She is merely a pleasure vehicle now so has no need for heavy loads or towing nor does she do high mileage. She is also used mainly on roads and does not do heavy off roading – a bit of gravel and green laning occasionally. I currentl...
