Rear Cross member

Can anyone recommend a decent supplier and brand for a rear crossmember? I’ve seen the usual on-line stuff but not sure which ones are good and which ones to avoid. Price varies quite a lot as well so am I correct in assuming that there are several manufacturers or are the retailer’s not paying atte...

A Stage 1 was never intended to be kind on the pocket when it came to mpg. Gas only really provides less penny’s per litre and only marginal mpg gain at best. Add to that the extra weight of the tank etc then it makes no surprises that you return 12 mpg – I would accept that. As long as the old girl...

Before you weigh up the cost of the conversion you may want to seek out compatibility first so you can get a true cost. The Stage 1 axle is completely different so I would suspect generic series disc conversion kits are probably not going to fit straight out of the box. The £700 kit I researched mad...

Thanks for the tip. Nothing wrong with Mintex. Did you de-glaze your drums and burn off the fluid? I recently bought Britpart front shoes, cylinders and springs as I needed a quick fix as I had 3 out of 4 cylinders go and contamination everywhere not to mention no brakes! My only gripe was that the ...

With all the fluff and gunk that builds up behind the cowling it wouldn’t surprise me if that is the cause. The contacts are relatively exposed and the grease is a crap magnet! With the cowling off you should be able to spot if anything is broken. Personally I would spray the contacts with brake cle...

To answer map1275’s original question I think Sams Trim is what you are looking for and yes, Sam is a she. If there is anyone out there that knows I would be very interested to hear about a good trim manufacturer or supplier as I would like to replace all of mine. I have been looking at the generic ...

Yes, I see what you mean. Although this may not come across as an exact science but my drop arm seems to be dead vertical for straight ahead. If it were me I think I would adopt the law of logic and split the difference of the steering box travel and see what you end up with. I’ve not yet taken my o...

Look down from the right hand wing and the oil pressure gauge is the large cylindrical device (approx 1 1/2” diameter) on the side of the oil pump. Attached to this is one Light Green\Brown wire. The oil pressure light sender is adjacent to the above and is much smaller in size. I’m afraid I can’t m...

The London to Brighton run was excellent fun. Over 800 Land Rovers of all creeds took part of which three of them were 3 Stage 1’s including mine. A great bunch of people there and it was good to meet another fellow Stage 1 owner. I didn’t take many pictures as all the vehicles were photographed whe...

I take it everything else is ok i.e. no other lights remaining on and that the engine switches off normally and that the alternator charges? Disconnection of the plug on the back of the alternator should isolate the fault so if the light remains on then you need to check the wiring, if it goes off t...

I’ve blown the front brakes on my Stage 1 so I’ll need to get that fixed before I confirm, but time and parts permitting I shall be booking a slot although it will only be for the actual run on the Sunday so a very early start!!! It’s for a good cause so it would be good to see some other Stage 1’s ...

There is a very good tech file article in the Land Rover Monthly magazine about a Series disc brake conversion. I think it was in either August or September 2009 edition; I’ll confirm tonight if you like. From memory the kit was made by GM/AC Delco and it was around £800 so not cheap. The snag howev...

It’s definitely not Marine Blue, faded or otherwise.

It is not a Stage 1 colour either but Land Rover did do a "Mid Grey" which is a Dupont colour with a 38508 code but it is very unusual so it could be a special order at the time of manufacture for a specific client.
