SU and LPG

Hi, here I am. `didn`t find the time teh last weeks. I fitted SU carbs on my Stage One instead of the CD 175, and I can tell you, they seem to be better. Fuel consumption is about 15ltr/100km, running normaly, that means not like a race car but not as a snale but using the overdrive regulary. I fitt...

Engaging and disengaging the overdrive you have to use the clutch. You mustn`t use the overdrive in first and second gear, `cause the torque could get to high. I think you`rè right if you say with the centrediff locked one rear and one front wheel is in action. I don`t know whether you have to stop f...

Hi, installing a LPG-Kit is not as difficult as it seems. After installing, the car will be controled by authorized mechanics, and so I will get a certification. It`s totaly legal then. The tank is fitted inside the car, so it can`t rust or be damaged. The tank and all other parts of the kit are tes...

Hello, I am just installing an LPG-Conversion. I think I can test it in the near future. I will tell you how it functions. I bought it in the Netherlands, a DIY-kit costs about 1300 Euro, complete with handbook for installation. Not cheap, but driving on petrol would be more expensive. Fuelconsumpti...

SU carbs

Hi,
I am thinking about changing my CD 175 carbs into SU`s. I have got a pair from an early Defender 110 V8. Does anyone have expirience on this swap?
Is the engine running better on SU`s,? Does it have more power?
What do you think or know about that idea?

have a nice day

Hi, when rebuilding my engine, I instaled new gears to the oilpump. I didn`t prime it with vaseline, but by an other way: I took al sparks out, and instaled a good battery. I filled the oilpump with engine oil, and then the oilpump was primed by starting the engine without spark plugs. Worked good. ...

Hi,
I have a Stage One, RHD, and bought a gearbox from a RR LHD. The speedocable was still instaled at the gearbox, so I can tell you, that in this case the cable from the RR was to short. But maybe it depends on LHD or RHD.

Hi Davo, mine is the same as Stirling showed in his picture. As far as I know does the break-warning light come on, if the break system loses fluid somewhere. The coming on of the warning light is caused by the PDWA. I think the lines are instaled cross over, so that if there is a defect for example...

Hi, The overhauling of the carbs is not as difficult as it seems. You should take them out of the car, and then dismantle them step by step.At first remove the big black srew, the damper. Open the four scews on the top and pull out the diaphragm and the piston with the needle. Now you must control t...

Hi, I think you should look at your carbs. Are the diaphragmas ok, and are the carb-pistond moving easy? If you can`t find a mistake there, you should look at your ignition, especialy at the distributor. Maybe the contacts are worn, or the spark goes the wrong way, that means perhaps a bad cable or ...

Seals from the valve shafts

Hello, does anybody know whether the Stage One needs valve shaft seals or not? Mine doesn`t have any, but I know that they are available. My engine needs about 1 ltr oil on 1000 km, but when I run down a hill without throttle, and then pull down the accelerator there comes oil-smoke out of the exhaus...

Hi, mine needs 1 ltr oil on 1000 km. I think that is ok. You should have a look at the engine, it must run smoothy at about 650/700 rpm. Sometimes the idling speed is set higher, because the engine doesn`t run good at 650/700 rpm because of wearn steering chain and camshaft. Have a look at www.v8eng...

Hi, I rebuilt the engine of my stage one, overhauled and adjusted the carbs (Stromberg), and took the restrictors out. Then I installed an overdrive. Now thw car does about 140 km/h on the highway. Fuel consumption is about 15 ltrs on 100 km, when going about 110 km/h. I think thats good. You should ...
