Re: Hi all, new owner stage1 88 prototype

The article covers six pages of the magazine, on coloured paper, and in fairly small print, so I don't think it would scan very well. Apart from a short intro by the mag's editor, the text of the article is identical with the exception only of the opening and closing paragraphs which have been alter...

Re: Hi all, new owner stage1 88 prototype

Further to my above post, and having grubbed about in my attic over Christmas, I can confirm that this online article by Michael Green is an updated copy of the article by him that appeared in the September 1996 issue (Issue 31) of Land Rover World magazine. I really see no reason for anyone to be s...

Re: Carb/vacuum piping

As datsta says, the vacuum advance unit on your distributor should be connected to the tapping on the left hand carb flange in your picture (vital!) Neither of my Stage 1s have anything similar on the right hand carb, so I would say the one on that carb in your picture can/should be blanked off, if ...

Re: Hi all, new owner stage1 88 prototype

Very interesting article - I seem to recall reading an article about this vehicle in one of the Land Rover magazines some years ago, which means the mag with the article is up in my attic somewhere - I must look it out, if I ever have time

Re: Underbonnet pipeing (esp diff lock)

Here is a picture of where the black plastic vacuum pipe from the diff lock connects to the inlet manifold on one of my Stage 1s, which has also had SU carbs fitted to its original engine, if this is any help: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3759/11132880333_e07e909c38_z.jpg Land Rover Stage 1 diff lo...

Re: 88" Stage 1 (No Such Animal?)

I note that the date of registration the seller gives is also the same as mentioned in the thread I referred to above. Obviously I don't know how the chassis was made and I wondered how the seller knew, but I see he has now said he is friends with the person who built the vehicle at the factory. A s...

Re: 88" Stage 1 (No Such Animal?)

The registration and VIN numbers are the same as the first prototype referred to in this thread from last year:

Re: Rear Cross member

Following Mrs Bingham's above recommendation, bought one of GDI's rear crossmembers with extensions. Fitted without too much trouble (certainly compared to most Britpart ones apparently) and they were certainly more than reasonable to deal with.

Re: Newby Question: What is wrong with the LT95?

I too have owned both and I totally agree with everything llandes says. I don't know about California but the only trouble in the UK is - to add to what I said above about there being something wrong with your vehicle if it won't do the legal limit plus some - OR you just passed your MOT and you hav...

Re: Hi all, new owner stage1 88 prototype

Interesting article & I kinda stand corrected (have you actually read it, Alan?) - seems it actually was a kind of early NAS 90!

Re: Hi all, new owner stage1 88 prototype

I agree. It's your truck, but it's also a rarity, and it would be a shame to turn a bit of Stage 1 history into something that looks more like a NAS 90. Just my opinion of course, but then what would you expect on the Stage 1 forum? When you say standard wheels looked lost under the arches, did you ...
