Air leak somewhere in the system?

Not strong enough spark?

Can you get a set of "working" carbs to swap just to see if it fixes it?

Carburettors are fairly simple, when you say they're not working what do you mean? Would a rebuild kit sort you out? Beware that most garages now don't have mechanics that have seen a carb, let alone two, let alone worked on them. Have you tried a Land Rover specialist, or even a motorbike specialis...

Don't know how much copies are, if it's £20 and we chip in £5 to you that would mean 6 people from here would contribute £30 to your costs.

If that makes sense :?

Nice to give it a work out now and again

There's snow forecast for next week in the south-east of England so everything will go to hell in a handcart. I'll be taking the Stage 1 into work with a tow rope and offering tows off the carpark for a tenner a go 8)

My Stage 1 had a new tank fitted just before I bought it, no idea of the manufacturer but it's alright except for the gauge being miles out - when the tank is full the gauge goes just over half way, then goes to Empty after around 70 miles of town driving. Assuming it's a standard 15 gallon tank eve...

I gather from your last line (after all the repairs) that your are reading hot but bottom tank is cold? Not a dodgy earth to the gauges or v/stab? This scared the crap out of me one day. Don't think it's that. If it's a dodgy earth to the gauges the fuel gauge goes south at the same time, and that ...

Just found this after a search - I replaced 2 of the rubber pipes behind the water pump yesterday and now there's an airlock in the water system. I've run the car upto temperature a few times, refilled the expansion tank but the temp needle still has a few quick trips up and down the gauge :? Don't ...

Will the advance curve of an SD1 distributor be the same as that of the Stage 1?

I know next to nothing about Land Rovers but with other cars swapping distributors around isn't always as straightforward as you'd hope!

A- the overdrive is for (1- saving fuel, 2-better gearing).
B- the overdrive was in the SIII and NOT in the stage1?
My 1982 Stage 1 has overdrive.

It was an option in 1970s Range Rovers so probably the same unit was used on the Stage 1?

Don't worry about it, it's an old trick for unsiezing stuck valves. Refill with petrol and drive on, the smoke will clear quickly
