Re: Restoration
Some very nice photos on that forum, but it's all in Deutsch German    I've cracked on with disassembly but have been in a fight all afternoon with the 2 large bolts inside the bell housing holding it onto the gearbox. Got the 2 nuts off the top studs and the 2 bolts out easy enough...

Re: New clutch recommendations
It is unusual for the clutch to just fail. More likely the hydraulics. All the clutch failures I've experienced over the years have been due to wear of the friction material and slipping. The transition from feeling it start to slip to it slipping and the vehicle going nowhere has been both sudden ...

Re: Restoration
Cheers Udo. So far, I've only managed a look at the transfer gears and as far as I can tell with my untrained eye, they look good as new. All turning by hand nice and smooth, hi/lo shift good and precise. The CDL and lock all seems good. The oil in there was like new; gold and clear. https://i.posti...

Re: Restoration
What I forgot to mention was that a lot less oil came out than I was expecting! Could the PO's complaint of noisy box all be due to lack of oil? So far We have fubar clutch release bearing and low oil level. There also felt like a pretty worn front diff when I took the prop off, so that could have b...

Re: Restoration
I decided to strip down the original box and inspect it. If nothing else, I'm curious. First problem was draining oil and getting it into my workshop. Oil was done by lifting it up a bit with crane to give me the height to get my oil tray whatnot under. That was easy enough. The oil from the transfe...

Continuing, managed to separate and lift the box. https://i.postimg.cc/GhDCST7k/20190525-125551.jpg Bloody heavy on your own and on uneven ground, managed it though. https://i.postimg.cc/3xCH35HN/20190525-152054.jpg So now sat on dolly. https://i.postimg.cc/Gt8CR4cn/20190525-152106.jpg There's a lot...

Re: Restoration
Time to move on with the project, so today it was gearbox day. I decided to lift it off while it's nice and accessible. I did attempt to remove the crossmember too but discovered the chassis was galvanised with it in situ! It can stay in place for now as it doesn't need to come off to lift the gearb...

Re: Restoration
Bit the bullet today and sent bulkhead off for galvanising. What's the emoji for apprehension?

Re: Restoration
Almost done with bulkhead rust repairs now. I have to admit, finding the motivation to finish it is not easy; the novelty of cutting out rot, making a patch piece, and welding it in and grinding has long since passed. But, the end is now in sight. Cut out perforated section from top front panel... h...

Re: Restoration
Time for a quick update. I've been experiencing bulkhead fatigue; the last 20% always seem to take 80% of the effort. I'm looking forward to putting the welder away for a while and getting back on the spanners. I moved the spare LT95 nearer my work area in readiness as I think I'll probably be pulli...

Paint Colour
I'm nowhere near painting stage yet, but when I have my bulkhead sorted, it will need to be painted before it goes back on the vehicle. My dilema is colour: My Stage 1 is Limestone but I quite fancy something different. To my eye the original range of colours now look pretty dated, and although the ...

Re: Restoration
Thanks Alan, useful info. Most of what I've read from others after having galvanised their bulkheads described re-tapping threads and drilling out holes. This may actually be preferable to trying to remove bolts now trapped in place, I don't fancy struggling to remove bolts that won't turn and possi...

Re: Restoration
I just hammered away against an section of rsj I have, not quite an anvil as such but kind of. That's why it's a bit rough and ready. As for galvanizing, well, first of all I have to find somewhere to get it done, then I guess I will have to do something about threaded holes etc. I'm open to suggest...
