I have been researching Stage 1 mats for a while now and the originals are made of unobtainium although I do believe the left hand one can still be sourced. In fairness the original ones are not that great. The one piece mat I think is even more difficult to find. I know someone who makes heavy duty...

Standard wheel colour for the stage 1 is limestone. I have seen “colour coded” wheels on some military and fire tenders which I guess are a special order. Also arctic white Stage 1’s tend to have white wheels as well.

I concur with all of the above and definitely shop around for the best quality parts that suit your pocket. Invest in the green V8 supplement manual as that is a very good guide although some of the attention to detail leaves a lot to be desired. The engine if original will be based on an early detu...

Check the light switch. It looks like a reverse light switch and it is located on top of the diff lock actuator housing. If in doubt follow the vacuum pipes towards rear right hand side of the gearbox/transfer box.

Good luck M...

Two non firing cylinders will definitely inflate the HC’s. Interestingly those cylinders are supplied by the same carb. How sooty are 3 & 8? Never rule out the cam however, but I guess you would have some tappeting especially if you have two lobes out. Perhaps whip off the rocker covers and see ...

Bearly 2” inches of snow here – just lethal ice everywhere. I’m currently taking a “crash” course in ice skating whilst driving a Land Rover. I definitely need new trousers now. Well done to the council for doing too little too late again!!!! Sliding aside, the Stage 1 definitely does what it says o...

The Stage 1 was available in all six standard Land Rover colours of the time plus there were a further five specific Stage 1 colours available as an option: Java Green, Masai Red, Inca Yellow and Pageant Blue. Russet Brown later became available with the County Station Wagon. Most of these colours c...

No improvement on the ice but also lethal black ice this morning. I went sideways coming off a roundabout on a clear main road!!! Yes a very sphincter twitching moment… Mpg is improving though – just shy of 10 mpg now. I’ve given up with the other cars so I have fuelled the Stage 1 up for duration o...

Snow

We’ve had snow since Thursday night and although most of the snow has now gone ours and the surrounding roads are still 3” thick with solid ice so the Stage 1 has been our only usable means of transport. She has performed brilliantly and has not slid or got stuck once – great fun. The only downside ...

Hopefully your fault has now been rectified so the new coil should be "destin a la bin". Was it a blue box jobbie? FYI - I measured the resistance of my coil as promised and with it cold it measured 2 ohms initially rapidly reducing to 0 ohms. Whether right or wrong it works just fine! BTW...

Bumpkin is spot on with the ballast resistor voltage. Just check that you have the correct distributor cap. You may have one that is offset – or inline??? Basically look at the notch in the rim of the cap that locates on the base of the dizzy – look inside the cap and check to see if it is inline or...

Those bobbins are commonly known in the UK as cotton reel mounts. They are used on the rear subframes on older Mini's for the exhaust mounts.
