Comment was made with a large dose of 'tounge in cheek'! :D To be honest I could have stuck my tongue out the window and the extra aerodynamic drag would have been as effective as the brakes :D Before there were disc brakes there were power assisted drum brake, and before that, hydraulic, and befor...

For the V8 info you need the V8 Supplement. I didn't know there was a specific Stage 1 manual??? IS that true? I've got the V8 Supplement, that's for engine rebuilds and the like. There must be a V8 owners handbook, telling you how to check the oil, where the difflock is etc. None of the standard S...

it would be handy to put the stage1v8 handbook on the site. as this would answer a lot of questions. who wants a scan? Boing for this topic. Is there anyone with a manual and a scanner? Or know where I can get an owner's book? I bought a Series 3 book as it covers models upto 1983 but the V8 isn't ...

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it! Have a look at the bottom of this page for a conversion that might well interest you, although it is a little pricey. It's offered by a technician well known to this forum. Neat, but £2000? That's a loooong payback :? Second, the brakes. I remember fi...

If I go LPG I'd really like to put a small (40 litre?) tank under each front seat, then I don't lose any load space and it all looks neater. A few real beginner questions because I've bought it and pick it up in 3 weeks - how do you drive it? Clutch in to engage and disengage overdrive? Do yo...

Unless the Series iii in question has a servo and 3" drum brakes, probably not.
I thought that's what Stage 1s all had? Jeez, I'm such a newbie to this

The rear screen from a 90 or 110 should fit exactly the same and they generally are heated, you just need to sort out some wiring, fuse, switch (ideally not energised when the ignition is off) etc. A simple adjustable timer and relay could be set up to ensure you dont leave it on. Maplin Electronic...

The brakes on George are actually very good. They have to be to get a warrant of fitness every 6 months. If yours are as bad as you say there is problem with them. Did you check the fluid levels? Did they improve after pumping? And yes, they would stop a 3.5 tonne load, provided it has at least one...

Cheers for the advice! As a question if you need to ask these questions could you live with it?? I think that when I drove it I fell in love with it  Just wondering if there's anything expensive that's wrong with it before I buy, and if Mrs choc-ice could drive it without sweating and swearing

Went to look at a Stage 1 yesterday, advice please?

A few grotty bits but the bulkhead was good, footwells too and the chassis I could see was solid. I've got a few questions about actually living with it that I hope you experienced owners can help me with! Brakes. This was a 1982 109 Safari so should it have servo brakes? Even from 20mph they're jus...
