You mean the plastic clip? Can't you just let it get chewed up by the flywheel?

Pleased to say that I got this fixed. I used some rubber fuel pipe over the pushrod and jammed it hard down onto the clip - this stops the clip from rotating. Experiment a bit to make sure you can get the fuel pipe off, I needed to cut a slit 3/4 of the way down. I then cut a bit of copper brake pip...

Cheers Matt, I'll try to find a needle nose mole grip, or I might try with some rubber fuel pipe pushed on hard over the pushrod to hold the clip in place. A jubilee clip will hold it down and I can take it off and remove the fuel pipe when it's clipped in. Will let you know how it goes! I'm in nort...

Hi newbie :D I picked my Stage 1 up a couple of months ago and it was very happy on the motorway at 65-70mph, but I do have overdrive and 235 tyres so the top gear ratio is quite a bit higher. Handy link here for topping up the gearbox oil, should be your first port of call if it's noisy. http://sta...

Clutch slave pushrod - clip has come off release arm

On my 1982 Stage 1 V8 I'm part way through replacing the hydraulics on the clutch. Sod's law says that if you only replace the master cylinder, the slave cylinder will go next week so I'm going the whole hog. I took the old slave cylinder off and the rubber dust cover was stuck inside the bellhousin...

Yes, the reservoir was empty although it's holding fluid fine at the moment.

Where's a good place to get new cylinders from? And how do I change the slave cylinder?

Clutch master cylinder losing fluid

Until Saturday afternoon when it ran out and left me driving through 2 town centres with no clutch at all.... Just in case you need it, the technique is to switch off the engine, select first gear and turn the key with a touch of throttle and you'll be driving along nicely. At 5-10mph smoothly back ...

There's a classic car show in Croxley Green, Watford next weekend. I've taken my old VW and Tatra there before so if I can get the Stage 1 cleaned up I'll take it along.

See if I can get a page of stuff about the Stage 1 history, because it's quite interesting.

Welcome! As said, I'd go with getting it to standard condition first, no point having big spotlights and chrome wheels if the chassis is rusty and the engine needs £500 spending on it. For things like brakes it's worth costing up replacement parts and then seeing if a disc kit is worth doing. If you...

Gearbox filler plug

Not a "how do I?" but a "how I did it" thread! The filler plug is on the left side of the gearbox and you need to top it up until it pours out of the filler, down your arm, onto the driveway and so on, and so forth. Step 1 - get the filler plug off: 19mm socket, loop a ring spann...

Good plan. Is it just a hosepipe in both directions or is there some kind of coolant flush you can get?

My last few cars have been aircooled!

Woo hoo, Land Rover at last!

After waiting for weeks my Stage 1 was ready to be collected on Saturday. I had a very nice drive home, about 100 miles on motorway, A roads and a few towns. The towns seemed quite narrow..... Cruising at 65mph on the motorway was quite easy with overdrive engaged and the 235 tyres probably raise th...
