That is very weird. I am not certain how something like that could have occurred unless work had been done on the engine previously and the bolts were not properly torqued. But given they are there to support the main bearing how come that wasn't damaged too? And then what about the crank itself, su...

Claaarsy Rangie :D

Sorry to hear about the misfortune. D2's are a nice wagon but they aren't a Rangie, so good replacement. Well done.

Must have done some major damage for the insurance company to write it off though.

So Stirling, you frightening the Kookaburras then. Looks like it must have cleared the wax out of the ears :D

You will generally find that starters are not sealed. Often they have openings on them for cooling too. For properly sealed units you need to look at marine starters.

Has it actually, really died? Or is there a split in the pneumatic pipe, which is a common cause of failure?

Seems a lot of hard work to convert and not much work to fix.

$4000 - $6000 for a vehicle in good running order seems about right. Less if there are problems. They are still a good truck and in most cases the army trucks were quite well maintained, the army didn't ever fix anything, they just replaced parts and always with LR original where possible - regardle...

Hm,

Pump on its way out, blocked fuel filter, blocked fuel lines, leaking fuel line, broken carb diaphragm, crud in carb bowl blocking needle valve, poorly tuned carbs, faulty pick up in petrol tank, petrol tank is nearly empty.

The manual only shows one but lists two:

If in doubt I would measure the part and get the parts supplier to compare it with each of the part numbers.

OK, looking at the parts manual there are two codes:

608104 for vehicles numbered up to 186339 and RTC3479 for vehicles numbered 186340 onwards.

Whether yours is longer or shorter, I have no idea but mine does not rub on any hoses.

That is the heavy duty air filter most commonly seen in the army models. Makes it quite easy to fit a snorkle to the inlet pipe.

The check is extensive and is constantly changing, depending upon which aparatchiki are in power at the time (and how ridiculous the requirements become). Here is a basic checklist though: http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/certifiers/virm-in-service/wof-check-sheet-specs.pdf There are updates about e...

Phew, seems a lot of work. I wonder if it is worth the effort? :? Around here such changes would have to be certified to be road legal I should think. Not a trivial task and with the large number of Disco's being wrecked these days, surely it would be easier to stick Disco running gear under there, ...

Should be a plate in the centre of the floor in the back. Take out the plate and under that is the access to the sender. If not, guess you'd have to drop it out.
