Could be the distributor. It's right at the front of the engine and vulnerable in those sort of conditions. In the Brit Army our V8s have always had waterproofed dissys for that very reason.

Hi Horst, I have now run my very early (1983 - so engine-wise not that different from Stage 1s) 110 V8 on LPG for just over 1000 miles. MPG is down from 15-16 on petrol to 12-13 on LPG - but here in UK the cost per litre is only about half that of petrol, so I'm quite happy with that. No noticeable ...

Tappet/Cam Noise

I am beginning to get a bit of the dread tappet/cam rattle on my very early (Aug 83) 110 V8. :( This after a genuine 69,000 miles and 23 years. Typical conditions are either when coasting on very light throttle or accelerating heavily. At all other times, smooth as a dream. :?: My question is - at w...

Conversion is now done (good job Glencoyne !), running well with more powerful coil and Aldon electronic module in the distributor. Still on Strombergs, but have got a set of SUs & manifold up my sleeve if need be. Plus a bit of welding to bulhead & chassis, reconditioned alternator, new UJs...

Jon, Stirling, Thanks - much as I thought. I'm tempted by SUs because I'm used to them (MGB for 17 years) and they are easier to adjust than Strombergs. There are carbs & manifolds to be had on Ebay, but I suspect that I would have to spend a bit to get the carbs refurb'ed as well. Swings & ...

LPG Conversion - Stromberg Carbs

Hi, Am planning to have our '83 110 V8 SW converted to LPG and have been canvassing a lot of workshops who do it. Several have said that it is worth converting from Strombergs to SUs before doing so - mainly on the grounds that the former's diaphragms have to be replaced every few years. Anybody got...

New Member Introdution

Hi, Pleased to join the forum and have already got some useful griff from it. Have driven landrovers all my working life in the Army, but am new to ownership. Bought an early (1983) 110 V8 SW a few months ago - mainly for towing/launching our boat and family camping expeditions. She's in reasonable ...
