Re: Steering relay.

I rebuilt the relay a couple of weeks ago. It took about 6 hours due to working out how to get the thing back to gather. I forgot to take the Haynes manual to the workshop so was working it out as I went. I made up a press to compress it but I broke one of the fibre bushes so I had to put one of the...

Re: Body Parts

Hi Kieth,
I’m keen on the Gearbox & rear door.
I do have some storage space so will take any bits that would otherwise go in a skip.
I’ll PM you my details.

Re: Stage 1 TDi Station Wagon

Hi Glen, That’s it. In 2015 I’m guessing it had a Perkins Diesel engine? It changed hands in 2015 & 2017 it would seem (by the names on the receipts). The guy I bought it from put it back to a V8 & LT95 but the engine expired in short order so he fitted the 300TDI & R380 that he had spar...

Re: Stage 1 TDi Station Wagon

I'm pretty much going to use it as a car 99% of the time. There will be some motorway driving involved so something like a 0.8 top gear makes sense. The previous owner said it felt really under geared with the V8 & LT95. I'll also have to see what the availability of a LT95 is like. I have the c...

Re: Steering relay.

The PAS problem revealed it self via a stream of fluid from the underside of the pump and a rather wobbly pulley. I'll fit the replacement this week.
Craddocks, however seem to be dragging the chain with getting bits for the relay to me. Hopefully I can get it done this week.

Re: Steering relay.

Thanks. It does retain the bulk of the steering system.
I have to try and bleed it but there doesn't seem to any bleed nipple or the like. I'll try via the hose and see how far I get.

Re: Steering relay.

Thanks Geoff, that's most helpful.
Out of interest, did the S1V8 get delivered with power steering? Mine has power steering but I can't seem to find much info on this other than it my have originated from a Military S1V8.

Re: Steering relay.

Thanks for that Geoff. I’ll order some bits today.
I did try to download the manuals but struggled to find a live link.
Craddock don’t have one. But, that academic as I’m not spending nigh on £600 on it.

Steering relay.

There is about 8 inches of play at the steering wheel which I’ve tracked down to the steering relay. It appears that this is different to the Series 2/3 Relay due to the forward position of the front cross member - an improvement really. However, a replacement unit is not available and talking to on...

Stage 1 TDi Station Wagon

Hi Everyone, I recently acquired a 1982 Stage 1 Station Wagon in Marine blue - well the bits which have paint on them are mainly blue. It has a 300TDi with an R380 gearbox fitted. My plan is to back to a V8 with LPG & a 5 speed box, but that is realistically a year or so off. I ran a very early ...
