tallergypsy, have you done any destructive testing on the Fairey overdrives for the LT95? I'd be curious about what actually kills them. Since this thread started I've just bought a Fairey overdrive. I don't need it right now but they can be hard to find. I paid £100 for this one in Dumfries. I had ...

I'd agree with map and stay 16". less chance of between the drums and wheels filling up with mud and better when you get a puncture and one less modification. Why wide? You'll have less grip on wet grass and sideslopes. Better flotation by virtue of less ground pressure but tall and narrow in m...

If it's a mechanical drive you can find them on old utility companies like the electricity and water companies used to use them. Better to look for an early v8 110 than stage 1 because these used the same LT95 but were more common. That's how I got mine. I've also got an LT77 with a V8 adaptor plate...

My tuppenceworth: As above but another place not to use EP90 which would seem normal is in the capstan and drum winches used on androvers which use a phosphor bronze worm and wheel. I was rather under the impression that it was high pressure with the EP additives that damaged the phosphor bronze. Pl...

Is that rear of rear propshaft the same as a stage 1 front? Larger PCD on the flange and double cardan?
Yeah, what's the brand on the bottom PTO?

Alright, you got my attention. Cough up the details Map :p Likewise!!! So that's an overdrive above isn't it, what the info on the PTO unit? Does it drive front and rear? Is it designed for the 110, Rangie, or Stage 1? It's a pto unit above driving a prop shaft. Maybe for a trailer? The bottom PTO ...

I too would doubt there to be much of a demand either. Perhaps if it offered a deep reduction ratio as well then you would get demand from the off road community. I don't know if it would be possible to make a three stage planetery gearbox for the money people are prepared to spend. I've had a few F...

Just to hammer home what the guys have already said: read the manual and use engine oil. The LT95 is basicaly a strong unit but has plasic bearing cages and plastic elements in the oil pump which are not designed to pump gear oil. Most gearboxes don't have oil pumps in them and rely on splash lubric...

Have you got a photo of the PTO assy? Is it an enclosed chain drive from the PTO on the back of the mainshaft like the fairyey/Superwinch ones or does it come from the bottom of the transfer case like a 101? Does it have provision for driving to the rear as well?

I'm not getting any mpg out of mine because it's still in pieces all over the place and not any chance of being together any time soon to play in the snow
So don't grudge the fuel and enjoy! I'm jealous!!
We've got about a foot here in South Lanarkshire.

Oh, well, suppose you're older and wiser now after all that? Being a tight Jock and nothing to do with being in Africa in the middle of nowhere I had great success with rivnuts of all sizes, all be it metric, by simply using a spring washer under a nut when putting them in. Put a nut on a bolt, scre...

I'm not sure exactly but I think the drive flange will hit the middle of the wheel before the studs even get close. Maybe with spacers. Dunno what an R34 is, I thought it was a skyline. I got the rear diffs out of 2 of them for my austin gipsy. I'm not too up on RR though. P38 was the one after the ...

The height I quoted is from Land Rovers own operation manual supplement for the 109 V8. Also relevant would be the type of springs on it now. The book lists 11 leaf fronts and 10 leaf rears which if original would be knackered by now and if replaced may not be original spec. Tyre pressures would mak...

5988, Thanks for that. I'd never have seen that as long as I lived! Here's an almost usefull photo pre rebuild. It shows how I made the back bit of chassis and grafted it on to the original stage 1 front which then got a new bit grafted on to that. The uprights hold the slam panel and radiator and b...
