I have not seen springs wrapped up on landrovers, I just paint on old engine oil to mine to keep them lubricated, as for tyres I always use 750XR16 the range avalible is still vast if you shop arround.

this method worked for me once on a 90 tdi, a bit rough but effective!

could you not re-stamp it using a set of engineers stamps?

Could it be fuel related?
Is the pump running ok?
Have you checked both fuel fillters?
Are the float chambers filling as required?

I had overheating because of the back plate of the water pump being corroded thus reducing the flow rate of the water.
quick fixed with some magic metal set!

give the radiator a good looking at, it can "steam" but not drip onto the floor, also check if there is white emulsified oil under your oil filler cap.
