Hi Martin, Is the wire from the starter the one which gives a straight feed through to the coil (as opposed via the ballast resistor) if so tht will almost certainly be part of your problem also if the starter is tired it will be drawing more current than it should which would give you an even bigge...

Hi Martin, Do the check of the spark when cold against the check when hot and no start, if theres a diffrence we'll continue down the ignition route. If theres no diffrence try pulling the choke out and pumping the throttle (when it wont start hot) then as quickly as you can get the easiest plug out...

Hi Martin, I would still try the old cap and rotor arm (if you still have them) first to see if the mis-firing stops. You don't sound too far away from a solution yourself so it'd be a pity to start spending money!. I would then move the rotor arm position to the correct location with no 1 cyl at td...

Hi Martin, it may be worth going back to your original rotor arm and dizzy cap with the original lead configuration and see if it will start then. If it does then swap the items one at a time to fond out whats wrong. If your leads didn't follow the correct firing order it might be worth checking tha...

Hi Martin,
You could also check the condition of the spark when the engine is cold (when it will start okay) if you cant detect a diffrence between the two then the problem may not be ignition related. also dont forget the dizzy cap if you are renewing the ignition components.

Hi Martin, Next time it happens try pulling one of the leads off and popping a spare spark plug in and earth it's body against the engine (use insulated pliers to hold it!!!) get someone to crank the engine and check if you have a spark or not. It wont solve your problem but at least it will give yo...

The advice seems right but I still suppose there will be fuel in the feed line that is open vented through the carbs? When the pump switches back on for the first time this would get pumped into the carbs first I think.

Hi Dennis, I had a similar problem with my cd175's and Ordered a carb refurb kit (think it was from paddock spares) it only cost a few quid per side and included the shut off valves. The only other thing I can think of is that some lpg systems lift the carb needle assembly Via a vacuum so if one of ...

First of all apologies to Chinny! think we have digressed!! If you are startingand running on gas all the time without any major probs then your setup must be reasonably ok!!. The problem then arises that by definition that means you hardly run on petrol, but then the problem is that petrol has a 's...

I'm not sure of the outrigger layout of the 110 but if it is like a disco or a R/R then I can see what the diffrence is. The disco and R/R have a nice clutter free expanse of chassis between the two radius arms where a 244 X 860 mm (ish) tank neatly fits, my 109 however has outrigers that are built ...

Hi Tom,
When you say difficulty getting it to start on gas from cold when damp,
does the system initially fire up on petrol first ?

Unfortunately it's been around six years! since the 109 v8 was all in one peice so I'm working from memory, but I wonderd if to retain good ground clearance the battery box section of the seat box would have to be removed to allow the tankto fit higher up ?

Apparently with the gas having a much higher octane rating than petrol it burns in a more controlled manner, i.e. longer. Due to this the ignition needs to be advanced (the spark fires sooner) so that the profile of the longer burn time better suits the position of the piston to give maximum power. ...

Thanks Tom,
I think I'll have a look and a measure it would be nice to get two underslung sidetanks and keep the interior looking standard, though I'd probably have to get a smaller gel type battery or even relocate the battery completely

The price seems very good especially if the system comes with certification. I also agree with Tom about the tank sizes I have two 40 litre underslung tanks on my XS Disco and that usually gives me around 140 miles with my heavy right foot. One major point to remember is that the tanks/valves are de...
