Re: Restoration

Pressed on today. I decided to tidy up the chassis ready to refit the gearbox. The galvanised chassis is like new under a few years of grime. I already gave it a pressure washer before removing the gearbox, but it looked a bit dirty still, so gave it a wire brush and then painted it with some oil. I...

Re: Restoration

You can either order just the parts that you think you need to replace, and you can do so by ordering from bearing suppliers, etc., or do what I decided to do and order a complete kit. For the LT95, I could only really find the 2 kits: one from Syncro Gearboxes and the other from EAC. Individual par...

LT95 Rebuild The thrust washers for the centre differential arrived yesterday along with a new pair of transmission brake shoes, so time to crack on and get this job finished. https://i.postimg.cc/GhBJvTZm/20190703-135951.jpg Split the diff amd removed the cross shafts and planet gears https://i.po...

Re: Restoration

The 4 new thrust washers supplied in the kit were the same type as the existing ones in the box. I used the new ones even though the old ones were hardly worn at all. I don't think they are the steel type you described. I decided that it was better that I knew the whole box had been rebuilt with all...

Re: Restoration

 dunno about that, but thanks. I've left out an absolute ton of stuff but it's so difficult to document and film at the same time as doing the work, especially when it goes wrong. I'm sure there are a lot of very bored readers who have already been there and got the T shirt who are singularly ...

LT95 Rebuild Cleaned and replaced bearing and O ring to reverse gear idler then refitted https://i.postimg.cc/J08p4yX1/20190625-160502.jpg Now for the selectors. This was far more fraught than it should have been because somehow or other, I had managed to put the selector forks for 1st/2nd and 3rd/...

Re: Restoration

LT95 Rebuild Since my last update, I have been busy getting on with the rebuild. I opted for the Syncro Gearboxes rebuild kit and a replacement Primary Pinion. The pinion looked to be NOS original part and the kit contained a mixture of bearings from Timkin, SKF, etc. all branded quality parts. Hav...

Re: Stage 1 TDi Station Wagon

I use postimage.org for my photo uploads. A stage 1 with a 300tdi and an R380 is no longer a stage 1! It needs a V8 in it.

Re: Steering relay.

I'm a lucky fella then as I have a brand spanking new replacement steering relay for mine for when I get around to it.

Re: Wheels

Hi, As they are white rather than limestone I think I have Defender wheels. Did Stage 1's have the own wheels or generic S3? Does anybody have the part number, as I'm still waiting on a parts book. Kind regards, George There are various on-line parts catalogues available while you wait for your pri...

Me too.
Is there a Stage 1 club/group/affiliate going? I looked all over last year for a Stage 1 representation but didn't find one.

Re: Restoration

Well I intend to begin the rebuild next week when the parts arrive. I may have to order some shims of course when I know what I need, but other than that, I should have all I need to put it all back together to spec. It will be a major part of the restoration out of the way. Doing this has given me ...

Re: Restoration

I guess the LT95 is a relatively straightforward box to work on for a first timer. LT230 And R380 in the Disco and various Diffs on the future to-do list.

Can you explain more the "glue" in method you're referring to Map? Cheers.

Re: Restoration

I've been pressing on with the gearbox, and with the help of a hydraulic bearing separator have managed to strip it down for proper inspection. https://i.postimg.cc/wjSZvQzB/20190611-120843.jpg I still think that it is in near new condition and really do wonder if it was rebuilt before. It's where t...
