LT95: scrap parts on the market!

I recently opened my gearbox because the transfer lever jumped in neutral. I made a complete overhaul 30000miles ago and I could not believe what I found when I pulled out the intermediate shaft. I had new shims installed and two of four were made of steel instead bronze 😡 The high range gear has a ...

Re: 3.5 carb to 4.6 conversion advice

In my opinion the 4.6 should be fitted with the original 3.5l periphery. There are only a few improvements to be done. 1. the oil sump has to be dented out 5mm 2.a distance ring for the crank pulley ( 4.6 crankshaft is 1“ longer) 3 the alternator bracket needs one hole to be drilled to 10mm 4. a new...

Re: Thrust washer thickness..

I can't give an answer to the thickness, sorry! But before you install the new trust washers, give them a test! There are steel washers on the market!!! They look absolutly identical to the bronze items! They work for 200 miles, after that the surface of the high gear wheel will be worn out! Don' t ...

Re: Lack of Power, Help please.

Did you check the tank breather pipe and the filler cap? If you have a vacuum in your tank the pump will not be able to provide enough petrol to the carbs.
Also the air filters could be a problem...

Re: Get the most power out of a Stage 1 3.5L V8

the best way to get power ist to make a exchange to 4.2 or 4.6l. You only need a torque camshaft (Viper Hurricane...) with distributor drive. All the other stuff can be used from the 3.5l. You will reach minimum 200-210bhp. I cannot recommend Edelbrock or Holley Carbs, too complicated and thirsty. T...

Re: Restoration

Very good job! Nice to see, the kit is still worth the money. I hope you had a lot of fun while the gearbox overhaul :D You took the old trust washers on the intermediate shaft? While reading the story of the missing detend balls I had a smile on my lips, a déja vue! I lost two detend balls in the s...

As I wrote: heat is the solution...
But any liquid sealant should be the better idea as I used on my own box. It has been working for four years now.

Re: Restoration

Your box seems to be in great condition, only the primary shaft and a few bearings. A really worn LT95 box is a rarity. I have two Range Rover LT95 with more than 200000miles each. There are nearly perfect gears inside, only bearings, shims and synchronization has to be replaced. The problem with oi...

Re: Syncro Gearboxes

I used the kit three years ago and everything was in a good quality. Most bearings were Timken. But beware of the trust washers installed to the intermediate shaft gears. In later kits I found out they were steel made instead of bronce. It works but just for 100miles :( . The coating is correct..., ...

Re: Restoration

Being a bit nervous is normal :D it is not necessary to have special tools for the LT95. To get the tilted roller bearings off the shafts, an angle grinder is useful. First you have to destroy the roller cage and than cut a slice off the inner ring. Sometimes the heat is sufficient to take the ring ...

Re: Restoration

The main problem on LT95 boxes are the lay shaft bearings. That makes the box noisy. After the rebuild I would recommend STOU oil instead of engine oil. STOU is a 10W40 engine oil with transmission oil additives in. The gear change is much better than before. There is an overhaul kit available with ...

Re: Heater control valve... again

Hi all, I installed the heater valve a few weeks ago. We spent the Easter holidays with our caravan behind the Stage 1. The old valve was leaking on longer trips and I didn't want to top up the coolant permanently  The valve fits and works perfect! https://up.picr.de/35709264wh.jpg https://up....

Re: Low vacuum on carb

If there are later carbs fitted, there should be an additional spring loaded valve fitted in the throttle valve. When the spring got weak over the years there is an bypass at idle revs. The best solution is an exchange to the standard unit without valve or the valve can be soldered. http://up.picr.d...
