Re: Fuel Bubbling in Tank No power.

Hi Alan The Vacuum line is good with no leaks. The LR mechanic checked the distributor and said the advance was working as it should. The bloke I bought the car from said it had been running good before it blew a valley gasket and that was why he parked it for 10 years! So I have rebuilt everything ...

Re: Fuel Bubbling in Tank No power.

Thanks for the responses. It is a new cam and lifters. The heads were reconditioned and it has 130 lbs compression on each cylinder and the timing has been checked both valve and vacuum. So I have ruled out mechanical problems. Its a new pump and new filters all round. I have checked them again and ...

Fuel Bubbling in Tank No power.

Long time since my last post. When I turn on the ignition the fuel pump runs continually (as it probably should) but you can hear fuel in the petrol tank bubbling as the pump is sucking. The engine has been completely rebuilt, new cam, rebore, pistons, rings, crank reground, new timing chain and gea...

Re: Fitting Crankshaft

Well, I have sorted the problem with the crank bearings. Took it to my engine builder today and he said it is common for the "wings" on the centre bearing to be oversize as with older engines the crank wears on the web where the thrust has been taking place so they make the sides oversize....

Re: Fitting Crankshaft

The bearings are AE Mogul brand from Belgium. I bought them from a Land Rover specialist part number RTC171810G. The crank was ground to 10 thou under so the bearings are 10 thou over. It spins freely if I remove the centre bearing as the only contact is on the web of the crank with the side of the ...

Fitting Crankshaft

Hi Refitting my reground crankshaft with new bearings and finding that the centre bearing (with the side wings) is so tight that the counterbalance of the crank is shaving the white metal from the sides of the bearing. The crank is so tight from the friction that it is almost impossible to turn over...

Re: Removing Camshaft

Thank you. I thought that was the only way to do it, but thought I should check with those in the know.

Removing Camshaft

I am in the process of removing the camshaft in my Stage 1 and understood that it can be removed in situ. I have hit an obstacle as the Crankshaft pulley will not come off as it fouls on the front chassis cross member. I have thought that by releasing the front engine mounts I may be able to jack th...

Re: New Aussie Stage One Owner

Well I've been slowly pulling the engine down in the vehicle. !st obstacle is I can't get the crankshaft pulley off as it fouls on the front chassis frame. I thought I read that you can replace the camshaft with the engine in the car. I have thought about undoing the engine mounts and jacking the en...

Re: New Aussie Stage One Owner

Thanks Alan I was happily surprised when I put a battery in, reds worked, lights, blinkers, wipers, interior light etc etc and the motor turned over. the fuel pump was pumping as well. Guess you can be lucky. Will take your advice and change all oils. Most other things needed are cosmetic so looking...

New Aussie Stage One Owner

[attachment=0]P1070124.JPG Hi My name is Graham and I have just bought a 1980 Stage 1 that has been sitting in a paddock for 9 years. It is a one owner and he told me the valley gasket blew for the 3rd time in 25 years so he left it in the paddock and bought a Toyota! It shows 114,000k's but the old...
