A good basic rule of thumb to follow is "buy the biggest that will fit".

You could start looking into fancy gell cell batteries if you want but they do cost.

Just done a compression test on mine. Cylinders 1 & 7 are 20psi down on the others and go back with a squirt of oil. Looks like my bores are worn. Also found my dwell angle was at 43 degrees which wont help.

What does black plugs mean?

My V8 is having similar problems and I am going to do a compression test this afternoon. I think I read somewhere that if you have low compression you can try squirting a dash of oil in to the cylinder and repeating the test. If the compression increases then its the rings/bore. If not its the valve...

They are not supposed to be any wooden supports!

I used the workshop manual and parts catalogue. You can download them from my website here.

When I bought mine the rear tub was off but in one piece. you shpuld be able to drill out the rivets that hold it to the cills/door frames and with some help lift it off.

Colour

I am thinking of getting my stage1 resprayed next year if I can find someone to do it cheaply. It currrently is blue with a mix of white and olive doors.

I was thinking Massai Red or Java green.

Now I know Bumpkin will say Java green but what do the rest of you think?

I wouldnt be without the overdrive in my 88 diesel and intend to fit one to my stage 1 when I get it on the road. I am also thinking of fitting a V8 from a discovery so the few horses may help.

If you havent already try derestricting the engine which should give you a bit more power.
