Re: Carb/vacuum piping

Hi Chris,

someone else will need to post some help here as my engine only has one carb with a vacuum connection and only one small pipe coming out of the centre of the manifold, going to the top of the radiator. I'm sure you can simply block the spare carb connection.

Cheers,

Re: Carb/vacuum piping

Your Stage 1 looks good! The vacuum pipe connects to the tapping on the left hand carb flange, just above the butterfly valve. Note that it does not have any vacuum at idle, unlike other vehicles. You need a timing light to set your ignition. If the problem is the distributor will not rotate far eno...

Re: Post-refurb woes!

Sounds a bit like one of the carb diaphragms has died. To examine them, take out the dashpot pistons, undo the 4 screws on top of the carbs and gently remove the top. If the diaphragm has a crack in it, symptoms are lots of black smoke and maximum about 10 kph in 2nd gear!

Re: MS80 Carberettor Adjustment Tool

There are two sorts, mine is the one on the right in this picture

The bottom has a slot that matched a blade in the carb.

Re: MS80 Carberettor Adjustment Tool

Look on the top of the carb. You should see 175 CD and that needs the tool to hold the diaphragm so you can adjust the needle height with the tool. Otherwise the adjustment might rip the diaphragm.

I have one 175 CD-2 that has the mixture adjustment below the carb and needs no tool.

Re: Where to buy Twin Zenith Carb REBUILD kit??

Hi Matt,

look for part number AAU2967, same as early Range Rovers.

For example, these guys have them http://www.paddockspares.com/aau2967-ca ... hragm.html

You can expect to pay about 10 UK pounds plus airmail per kit.

Doug

Cheap cure for the thermal switch $US 2.59

I have two of the choke thermal switches and neither of them work. You don't seem to be able to pull them apart like the cable switch. A nice man on ebay sells 'KSD301 Temperature Switch 35 degrees' for $US 2.59 including postage. Just epoxy it on top of the old switch and hook up an earth wire on o...

Zenith 175 CD-2 carburettor

I've been having starting problems when the engine has been stopped hot for 20-30 minutes. Usually, hot or cold, it starts first pop but it takes 15 seconds or more of cranking with about 1/3 throttle depressed if it has been stopped for a while. I picked up a 3.5L V8 manifold with carbs on TradeMe,...

Yes it was on TradeMe. I was initially looking for an ex-Army one with a hardtop.

Here is a short MP4 I took on a very bumpy section at Woodhill:

I will take it along to the next LROCA club night and see if I can get it graded.

Another V8 in Auckland, NZ

http://www.binary.co.nz/L-R-Auckland-NZ.JPG I bought this in August 2011, my first Land-Rover. It's 1983 in good order, showing 93,000 km which appears to be right from the paperwork they gave me. It was de-registered for 5 years and I think was parked in a barn. When re-registered it had the chass...
